◉ Wheelchair & stroller accessibility

Accessibility at the Trocadéro

The esplanade is flat and freely accessible, but the Trocadéro Métro is not wheelchair accessible. Here are the adapted transit options (RER C, buses with ramps) and the accessible sites around the square, backed by official sources.

The esplanade, flat and freely accessible

The Parvis des Droits de l'Homme (Human Rights Plaza), between the two wings of the Palais de Chaillot, is an open public space, flat and paved, freely accessible at any hour. To reach the viewpoint over the Eiffel Tower, there is no obstacle: it is the easiest part of the neighborhood in a wheelchair or with a stroller.

The real difficulty lies underground, in the transit network. The descent from the forecourt toward the Trocadéro gardens, on the Seine side, is by stairs; sloped side paths allow you to go around, but their practicability could not be confirmed by an official source, so we remain cautious on this point.

Getting around in a wheelchair or with a stroller

Trocadéro Métro: not accessible
The Trocadéro station (lines 6 and 9) is not accessible to wheelchair users: no elevator from the street to the platform. This is the case for nearly all of the historic Paris Métro, apart from line 14.
RER C: accessible
The Champ de Mars Tour Eiffel station (RER C) is equipped with elevators down to the platforms. Boarding from platform to train is done via a mobile ramp placed by a staff member on request, as soon as the train arrives. It is the nearest accessible alternative.
Buses: accessible with ramps
Paris buses have a retractable ramp and a wheelchair space with a grab bar. Lines 22, 30, 32 and 63 serve the Trocadéro stop. Often the simplest way to reach the square.
Good to know: on an accessible bus line, some stops may not be (marked with a crossed-out pictogram on the maps). Check your stop before you set off.

The accessible sites around the square

Aquarium de Paris
Fully accessible. An outdoor elevator (to the left of the entrance stairs) goes down to the reception; the route has no stairs, with a gentle 4% slope, a second elevator at the end of the visit and plenty of seating. An all-disability session takes place one Wednesday a month.
Palais de Chaillot museums
Wheelchair accessible (ramps and elevators). At the Cité de l'architecture (architecture museum): manual wheelchairs and seats available to borrow, free entry for the person with a disability and their companion, reserved parking on Avenue Kléber, Avenue Georges-Mandel and Place du Trocadéro.
A few caveats
At the Cité de l'architecture, two areas remain inaccessible by wheelchair: the reconstruction of the Le Corbusier apartment (upper floor by stairs) and two rooms in the mural paintings gallery.
